the foster care pre-process ? Incredible Family

I?ve had several people ask for updates on what is involved with becoming foster parents and where we are in the process, plus I want to jot this down for my own recollection. Here?s where we are, and what we have ahead. Obviously they have to be very careful about who they entrust children to, since the state is liable for any problems that arise, but my personal feeling is that they also want to weed out those who are truly serious, because some of this has me questioning my own seriousness, lol!

?30 hours of training (done)
?application with three references (done)
?10 page essay on who our family is and why we want to foster completed by each of us (done)
?background check of criminal history, child abuse history (done)
?4 interviews with our caseworker to assess who we are as individuals and parents (first interview done)
?completion of financial information form: monthly income, monthly expenses (in progress)
?contact our state for our driving history records (in progress)
?each person in the family needs a physical exam and each doctor must complete medical reference forms (need to schedule)
?school attendance records for Dash (need to do)
?references from Dash?s kindergarten teacher (need to do)
?reference from Jack Jack?s babysitter (need to do)
?photocopies of birth certificates, marriage license, drivers license, vehicle registrations, insurance policies and coverage amounts, home owners insurance, and pet vaccination records/pet licenses for each pet (need to do)
?CPR training (need to schedule)
?fingerprinting (need to schedule)
?first aid training (need to schedule)
?home visit from our agency (to be scheduled)
?home visit from the state (to be scheduled)

This process takes approximately 6 months to complete, sometimes more if there is a backup with paperwork or fingerprinting. ?And since my busy season is starting to ramp up?my weekends and evenings are becoming dedicated to work and not as readily available for trainings and paperwork and meetings, which will inevitably delay the process (which is fine). ?After all of this is completed, then we will hopefully be approved to be put on the list to foster-to-adopt a newborn baby girl?..
